Let me preface this by saying that although this Wild Honey branch advertises itself as the Bugis branch, it is actually closer to Bencoolen. In fact, it’s just a few meters off Bencoolen Street. I found that the hard way when we had to walk 10+ mins from Bugis MRT station with a stroller and baby in hand.
Alright, with that out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff!
I moved to Singapore in 2009, and it so happens that it was the same year that Wild Honey opened its doors for business at Mandarin Gallery in Orchard. Their all day breakfast concept, aesthetic plating and large portion became an instant hit in Singapore. I’ve found myself dining at Wild Honey several times over the years, and if my memory serves me right they even briefly had another branch in Orchard that I went to in 2014-ish.
But since then, I’ve sort of forgotten about them. That is, until my son asked for pancakes for breakfast on Christmas and I didn’t feel like whipping up one. I remembered Wild Honey had a pancake dish that I enjoyed. So off we went to the closest Wild Honey, which is now located at the Lyf building at Bencoolen Street.
When we got to the restaurant, we were informed it was fully booked. It was Christmas morning after all. The bar seats were still available, but I had small children with me so that would not do for us. Thankfully, the one seat outside was still open so we snatched it.
Wild Honey’s niche is that they offer all-day breakfast from around the world. Their menu is presented as a country’s or regional breakfast (though I’m not sure how authentic they are), so for example you could have the English, Turkey, Californian, so on, so forth. You can view the menu here.
Here is what we ordered:
First up, the English Breakfast ($30) – The Full Works plus some: poached, fried or scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, pork & fennel sausage, turkey croquette, potato & sweet potato hash, sautéed mushrooms, grilled tomato, bacon jam & signature brioche.
This has always been my go-to dish whenever I’m feeling ravenous. It’s a sizeable portion, guaranteed to satisfy hunger. I’m happy to say it was as good as I remembered. You could really taste the butter in the scrambled egg. Definitely not the healthiest option, but I bet you weren’t looking for healthy food to begin with if you ordered this.
There are many components to a full english breakfast, but to me the bacon jam was one of the most memorable component of this dish. Sweet, savory and delicious paired with the brioche bread.
Norwegian ($32) – Avocado, grilled asparagus spears, poached eggs
wrapped w Norwegian smoked salmon, Hollandaise sauce & salmon pearls on signature brioche.
This was my husband’s order. I didn’t try it, but I’ll take his word when he said it was delicious. And beautifully plated too!
Brittany ($28) – French toast w chocolate hazelnut filling, baby bananas, salted caramel mascarpone, toffee’d hazelnuts & salted caramel sauce.
This was technically my son’s order. If you remember, the whole reason why we came to Wild Honey was because he wanted pancake. Well, Brittany is a french toast dish. Such is life when you’re a parent to a young child. 🤷🏻♀️
In any case, while the french toast was good and the portion was large just like other dishes at Wild Honey. I do have to say it is on the sinful side and way too much sugar than what one should have in a day, but that’s what you’d expect from a french toast stuffed with chocolate hazelnut.
I said this was technically my son’s order, because while he did ask for it, of course my son couldn’t finish it and my husband didn’t want to eat too much sugar. So guess who got to finish it? Me 🙋🏻♀️
In any case, I did enjoy the food very much. Our bill came out to be $125 after tax and service charge, which I think was quite pricey, but hey… it was Christmas morning. Next time though, I need to strategize my ordering better and probably share a dish with my son. It’s too bad they don’t have kids menu!
Another thing is I would also reserve ahead of time if I want to come back to this branch. The restaurant is not very big – there were probably only 10-15 tables inside. And like I said, they were fully booked on Christmas morning.
Afterward, we walked our breakfast off by strolling to National Museum Singapore which was just ten minutes down the street. A perfect Christmas day!
