Dining Out in Singapore

Fico @ East Coast Park, Italian Food by the Beach

When it first opened in mid-2023, Fico was all the rage among foodies. Bookings were scant and you have to plan months in advance if you want to dine on a weekend. Fast forward to 2025, bookings are much easier to get. I’m not one to hunt for bookings, so I only got to check out Fico very recently in August 2025.

Let’s see what it’s all about!

About Fico

Fico is a casual Italian restaurant helmed by Chef Mirko Febbrile, who was one of the driving forces that brought Braci (now closed) its One Michelin Star. Chef Febbrile hails from Puglia, Italy’s southern-most region. I’m not going to pretend to know all about Italy, but I did some research and found out that it produces 40% of olive oil from Italy.

Fico’s main selling point is the seaside Italian dining concept. It is located at the far end of East Coast Park, near carpark F and Bedok Jetty, if you’re familiar with the area. To get here without a car, you can take the MRT to Bayshore station on the brown line, then take a leisurely walk via the underpass to ECP. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Fico from the station.

And indeed, the restaurant is quite beautiful. To those who were concerned about seaside dining in Singapore’s hot and humid weather – fret not, there is a small indoor portion with glorious AC.

I wanted to sit outside though, so we opted for the outside seat. At least, that’s what I indicated in my booking, and I also requested to be seated by the sea side, if possible.

However when we arrived, the host took us to an indoor seat. I asked her if we could be seated outside instead (as per my booking note, although I did not point it out to her). And she took us to this seat:

This was the seat she gave us at first

… which was definitely not sea-side. So I requested again to be seated on the side facing the sea if possible.

Then she seated us on this side facing the garden instead. It’s closer to the sea, and I really did not want to change seat for the third time again so we took the seat. I’m not sure why, because there is an empty table for two by the sea as pictured below.

That seaside table remained empty throughout the night by the way

It’s good enough I guess.

Anyway, seating arrangements sorted, I started diving into the menu. I couldn’t check it ahead of time because Fico’s menu is seasonal. Between the two of us, we ordered one order of focaccia bread, one small plate, one pasta, one mains and two desserts. We also ordered non-alcoholic drink for each one of us.

First up, the focaccia bread. This was not listed on the menu, but yes you can order them plain instead of the 8″ Focaccina pizza. This focaccia bread was amazing – perfectly crusty on the outside, soft and warm on the inside.

It went perfectly well with our small plate – a burrata with tomatoes and plum. Also shout out to the olive oil they served at Fico! It was one of the best olive oils I’ve ever had. So fragrant and delicious.

For pasta, we settled on Mafaldine, with ossobuco sauce (braised veal) and hints of crunchy almonds. Turns out, mafaldine is the shape of the pasta used. Its this ribbon pasta with wavy edges. I’ve never had this before, and I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The sauce was just perfect if you like red sauce with beef.

For the mains, we chose Pork Presa served with eggplants and horn pepper sauce. Most people seem to go for the charcoal-grilled octopus, but after learning about Presa a few months ago at Fiasco, I wanted to try more of it.

I thought the green splatters on the plate were sauces, but they were actually just patterns on the plate 😅. Anyway, I thought the Presa was good, but it was not anything special. It tasted more like a very mild beef.

The dessert was 2 for S$18. There was not an option to order just one dessert, as far as I can tell from the menu. We ordered Burrata Gelato with strawberry sauces, and Tiramisu. Both were great. The burrata gelato was very creamy and mildly salted, which was great contrast to the sweet sauce.

The Tiramisu was equally great. One of the best ones I’ve had in the recent years. Creamy, but not to sweet (the ultimate asian compliment for dessert) and a nice touch to end the night.

After our meal, we spent a leisurely walk back to Bayshore MRT, then cycled back home. It was a nice weekday dinner for sure! I would come back to Fico for their rent a picnic set. There is a very nice lawn in front of the restaurant, which I think will be perfect for a family picnic.

If you do decide to come to Fico, I recommend getting here by around 6:30PM, so you’ll still get some daylight before the sun sets. FYI, it only gets dark around 7:30 in Singapore.
